On 19 February, Editions Plein Jour in Paris published Baby Farmer by the 2020 French writer at Randell Cottage, Amaury da Cunha.
In it, Amaury examines the tragic story of Minnie Dean, who, in 1895, became the only woman to be hanged in New Zealand. He draws on research in the New Zealand archives, interviews with Minnie Dean’s biographers and his own visits to places in Southland where she lived.
Despite the fact that Amaury’s travel in New Zealand was disrupted by the Covid-19 lockdown, he was nevertheless delighted to be able to complete his project and now see his book in bookstores in France.
